Sorry spellings haven’t been on the blog for a while! Please make sure you have a go at learning them at home as well as in ILT.

What a debate!

On Monday we were lucky enough to be joined by two fantastic mentors from Debate Mate, and spent the whole day learning to debate. We had a fantastic day and all took away some valuable skills.

What was your favourite part of the day? What do you think is the most useful and interesting thing you learned?

All about Ancient Egypt

This week in 5RG we went on a fantastic trip to the British Museum, where we had to undertake a number of investigations in the Ancient Egypt exhibits.

Then on Thursday we mixed up with the other year five classes and did three project lessons, one with each teacher. We learned why and how the pyramids were made, what it takes to mummify a body and how to write in hieroglyphics.

Next week we’ll be starting to make our own pharo masks!

What has been the most interesting thing you learned this week about Ancient Egypt?

We are holding a “Book Themed Bake Off” on Tuesday 28th February.   Cakes should be inspired by your favourite book.  Miss Atkins and Mr Palmer will be judging the cakes on the day and all cakes will be sold in the Turney Road playground after school.  All money made from the sale will go towards much needed repairs to the Library Bus.  Please leave cake donations at the school office.  Thank you!

Workshop on Monday

This afternoon letters went home regarding an exciting workshop that will be happening on Monday.  This Monday we are lucky enough to have two Champion Debaters coming in to give us a workshop on debating and public speaking.  Not only will this be fun but it will also teach us the invaluable skills of organising our thoughts, listening to other people and how to respond to ideas as well as how to speak in public!

The workshop will be filmed so in order for you child to take part please return the form asap.

Safer Internet Day 2017

Today the whole school has been busy talking about online safety, as part of Safer Internet Day 2017.

5RG set up their own Twitter account so we could learn how to tweet responsibly and how to use hashtags to join in a debate.

You can follow us on @Rosendale5RG

Check out the work we’ve done on exploring online images!

Halfway There!

By the end of this week we will be halfway through the school year. Hasn’t it gone quickly!

Comment below with a reflection of the school year so far.

What have you enjoyed learning about so far this year? Have you had any “lightbulb” moments? What are you most proud of? What would you like to achieve by the end of the year?

Race for Life

Today the whole school ran for 15 minutes to raise money for Cancer Research. Some members of 5RG did it three-legged, and some gave their teacher a rest by doing a sponsored silence as well! If you would like to donate online, please visit www.cancerresearchuk.org/support-us/donate . Please remember to quote Rosendale’s Unique Reference Number (URN) 441775131 in your donation.

Cancer Research also collect donated household goods (men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, accessories including shoes, belts, handbags and jewellery, quality homeware – anything from cushions to crockery, linens, Books, CDs, DVDs, old mobile phones and used printer cartridges. With each bag collected worth £25, have a clearout this weekend and bring in any unwanted items to the school office, where we will bag it up and send it off.
